 1. Natural Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs Flea and Tick Prevention

Quick Summary

Rated by: Amber

For anyone who’s on a tight budget and looking for the most effective dog flea collar at the lowest possible cost, this is usually the option that comes to mind.

Despite the low price, the quality is very good and the aesthetics are surprisingly appealing.

It’s not quite as effective as some of the more expensive collars listed here, but regardless it does do the trick and provides as much as 8 months of protection.

The collar is 27.56” (70cm), which means it will fit most dogs and is branded as a one size fits all product. However, it is best to check if the size will fit your particular dogs, before placing your order! This collar is easily adjustable though, so it will nicely fit smaller dogs without any issues.

It also has a nice system to lock the collar in place through a little plastic key, in order to ensure it won’t slip away if you have a hyperactive dog. A friend of mine kept getting frustrated because her dog is incredibly energetic and tended to frolic around so much, it would often lose its flea collar; so she had to twist a wire around to keep it in place, which is neither practical nor pretty. I recommended this product and it works much better for her and that feisty little pet of hers!

This dog flea collar is only available in a gray / silver color, so how stylish it will really look will ultimately depend on the color of your dog coat.

PROS

  • Appealing price
  • Easily adjustable
  • Looks good

CONS

  • Not as effective as other similar products

2. TickLess Pet Ultrasonic Tick and Flea Repellent

Quick Summary

Rated by: Amber

If you’re a technology enthusiast who likes to keep up with the newest gadgets, chances are you will want to experiment with this innovation in the world of flea collars. Rather than using chemical repellents, this collar relies on ultrasonic sounds to keep all pests away, and it works with mosquitoes and other insects as well as ticks and fleas.

This device works surprisingly well, and even allows you to choose from 8 different frequencies to allow you to adjust its effectiveness to better repel different kinds of insects.

Its operation requires 3 tiny included batteries that won’t last forever, but then again – traditional flea collars for dogs also have a finite life and when they stop working you can’t recharge the repellent elements.

The design of this product is very modern, and easily attached to any type of collar, and is easy to put on and take off. It’s also worth noting this could be the best available option if your dog doesn’t like the smell of conventional collars (some doggies really aren’t fond of the chemical scent). Make sure to try this ultrasonic pet protection technology if traditional alternatives aren’t working for your pet, or if you simply want to try a something different.

PROS

  • Contains no harmful chemicals
  • Produces no smell
  • Repels ticks, flies and mosquitoes

CONS

  • Slightly heavy and bulky

3. GetOff Natural Flea Collar for Dogs Flea and Tick Prevention

Quick Summary

Rated by: Amber

When my friends ask for my personal favorite recommendation out of the diverse selection of products I chose for this review, I always point out this is the best flea and tick collar. Well, at least it’s my personal favorite, since it relies on essential oils for its pest repellent effects, rather than any thing else, and provides as much as 8 months of protection.

This is actually about my personal philosophy, since I try to avoid using chemical products whenever possible, both for myself and my animals.

So whenever there is a natural option available, I will tend to choose it because I believe nature knows it best. If you can relate to such a way of living, then you will absolutely love this flea and tick collar for dogs that uses the power of natural essential oils to keep those crawlies away from your dog.

The scent emitted by this collar is much more pleasant than conventional flea and tick collar for dogs. As you may know, chemical based insect repellents can sometimes include toxic chemicals and product an off-putting scent, so if that’s something that matters to you, here’s a better and more natural alternative.

There’s also another key reason why I favor this collar above all other options: my dogs have a feisty personality. They’re rebels. Whenever I tried other collars, my dogs seemed to dislike the smell and I often found them gnawing on each other’s collars – that’s a big no-no. Since I really wouldn’t want them to ingest the chemicals, I was happy to have found this product.

PROS

  • Produced a pleasing scent of lemon oil and eucalyptus oil
  • Safe and non-toxic
  • Easy to adjust and made of waterproof high-quality material

CONS

  • Protective effects tend to wear out fast

4. Pet Acari Neck Strap Anti Flea/Mite/Tick Adjustable Collar

Quick Summary

Rated by: Amber

I’ve never seen a flea collar that looks as cute as this one! In fact, this one looks very much like a regular stylish dog collar, which can be nice if you want to keep your pet protected without drawing attention to the fact there could be fleas around. It coms in a bright pink color and the neck strap is made of rubber, which is wonderful if your dog is allergic to plastic. Its composition also makes for a particularly sturdy collar that is very unlikely to ever break away.

This is one of the few flea collars I’ve seen whose size can be adjusted without having to remove it from your dog’s neck. This is possible since it features a sliding buckle for adjustment along with a snap-on buckle, making this product very convenient when for some reason you want to remove it quickly – during bath time, for example. This is a very convenient feature, since you can effectively make it last a bit longer by keep it from getting wet.

On the flip side, this collar isn’t waterproof. I think this isn’t meant for permanent use, but rather as a temporary flea collar that you’ll snap on and remove often, as the need arises. In any case, it’s very effective in repelling various types of insects, and I know many people out there will absolutely love the design of this product and how much it looks like a regular collar.

PROS

  • Looks just like a regular collar
  • Gives off no sort of smell
  • Easy to use and adjust

CONS

  • Isn’t waterproof
  • Only available in pink so no good for males dogs

5. G&P Dog Flea & Tick Dog Collar

Quick Summary

Rated by: Amber

This could be the most traditional looking flea collar I’ve ever come across lately, and it reminds me of the earliest flea collars that we used to buy in my parents farm when I was young.

A true blast from the past, that works just as well as you would expect for a tried and tested classic flea product.

Some of my friends swear this works better than anything else out there, but I think that could be nostalgia talking; it does provide effective flea protection, but in my opinion there are more advanced alternatives nowadays.

The design of this flea collar is plain and unassuming, but it does look cute on all dogs. This product has a rubbery feeling and is fully waterproof, which is great if your pet has a tendency to splash around in puddles or dive headfirst into water streams. It relies on natural repellents rather than chemical insecticides, meaning it’s safe for you and your dog, even if you are prone to allergies. I am personally not too keen on this type of flea collar for a very energetic dog, as it does not have the same strength of holding mechanism as some other flea collars.

PROS

  • Natural protection with no smells and no harmful chemicals
  • Waterproof flea collar that provides long lasting protection
  • Provides 3 months of protection

CONS

  • Only available in one color
  • Buckle system is not too effective for very energetic dogs

6. ShengKou Dog Collar Natural Essential Oil Repels Fleas and Ticks

Quick Summary

Rated by: Amber

Are you the kind of person who appreciates discreet styles and favors elegant, simple designs?

Then you may find that this is the perfect tick and flea collar for your dog.

It’s a very compact and slim flea collar that will hold firmly in place, so consider this model if your dog has a tendency to lose its flea collar as sometimes happens with frenetic animals.

Available in a really nice looking silver color and different sizes S and L, both of which are sold together in the same package, this is a great option if you have two dogs. The buckle embedded on this flea collar is very effective, and it will remain steadily in place and is very unlikely to ever fall off accidentally once you snap it in place.

Asides from its unassuming design, I really like this flea collar because it relies on natural repellents which are quite harmless; the main repellent used is citronella (which smells like lemon), meaning this flea collar is also useful to repel flies and mosquitoes. This is a hypoallergenic product and safe to use even if your dog has sensitive skin; in fact, it even helps soothe the skin of your pet, if it’s already irritated from flea bites. This product guarantees long lasting protection for up to 8 months, which is a bit longer than many other flea collars out there!

PROS

  • Easily adjustable strap and waterproof protection
  • Effective in repelling mosquitoes as well as fleas and ticks
  • Hypoallergenic protection; excellent for dogs with sensitive skin
  • Simple and minimalist design; slim and lightweight

CONS

  • Has a very active smell of lemon, it’s not unpleasant but is noticeable

FAQ – A Buyer’s Guide

When you are testing out pet pads, it is recommended that you first identify what your dog needs the most. What size are they? Do they typically pee very often? How much can you afford to spend each month? In addition, here are the factors we look at:

Do flea collars for dogs really work?

The technology incorporated into flea collars has come a long way since they were first invented way back when. The latest flea collars, such as the ones in this review are able to not only kill fleas but can also prevent them from ever coming back. However, different products work differently, with some only killing adult flea infestations, whereas others kill young flea infestations as well.

Also some flea collars simply work to kill fleas and others are there to act as a repellent. By repelling fleas and stopping your dog from getting a flea infestation in the first place ensures that they cannot get bitten and given a disease.

Is Seresto better than frontline?

These are two completely different products for dealing with unwanted tick and fleas on your dog. Frontline works to protect from mosquitoes, whereas Seresto does not. However, both products are highly effective in the control and management of lie. Both Frontline and Seresto are waterproof, so still provide protection to those dogs that love to go for a swim and get wet. Because of the chemicals used in Frontline it is more likely to cause irritation and thus a reaction by your dog.

The final decision as to which product is best should always lie with the pet owner, as every dog has a different temperament and like different things, so what one dog likes, another one may not.

Is Seresto safe?

Seresto has been tested and verified as safe and is super effective in both the prevention and treatment of flea and tick infestations in canines. However, in a human health risk assessment, it was determined that it can possible cause mild irritation to the skin but does not cause serious skin based allergies. It is best, therefore, to try an not directly touch a flea collar with bare skin.

This being said, since the product came to the market, there has been anecdotal evidence to suggest that Seresto can cause unwanted side effects to all breeds of dog. This has led to some veterinarians actively discouraging against the use of any Seresto flea collars.

What kills fleas on dogs instantly?

As well as the flea collars featured in this review, there are also several homemade remedies that’s can be used to effectively prevent and kill flea infestations on dogs. The best way is to use dish soap. This is most effective when applied at night time because the flea insect is nocturnal.

Another household item that is effective is regular table salt. Use it with a course of vacuuming to help dehydrate the fleas and get rid of them. Baking soda works in a similar way and also requires the use of a vacuum cleaner. For light infestations, pet owners can also use the herb, rosemary. It should be turned into a powder and then sprinkled onto the fur of your dog.

Other homemade remedies for killing fleas include herbal flea spray, lemon spray, diatomaceous earth, and flea repelling plants, such as lavender, penny royal, spearmint, and chrysanthemums.

The Best Flea and Tick Collars Of All

I made sure to include a wide range of flea collars of all types in this review. However, the best flea collar for dogs in my opinion is the GetOff Natural Flea Collar for Dogs since it is completely natural. True, there are a few other flea collars that also use essential oils as the repellent ingredient, but I believe the eucalyptus and lemon oil combination used in this product is the best. I also like the smooth texture, along with its lightweight and reliable buckle. Most importantly, my dogs seem to really like this flea collar product the best.
